The twigs you give your guinea pig should not have been varnished or painted, as this can be extremely toxic and even fatal to them.
Before using the wood as a gnaw toy for them, wash it with hot water, sand it, and let it dry. Lastly, avoid giving pine or cedar branches because they contain phenols.
